These rechargeable NiMH batteries lose very little voltage when not in use, making them perform better in many situations, compared to other batteries with a higher capacity!
A ‘traditional’ NiMH AA battery currently has a capacity ranging from approximately 2,500 to 2,700 mAh but it loses a great deal of its capacity after a few months.
Eneloop AA batteries have a lower capacity (1900 mAh) but lose very little voltage when not in use. After 12 months, they still have about 90% of their capacity, whereas other rechargeable batteries have become empty by that time. Additionally, they have lower internal resistance, which guarantees better efficiency and performance when hit with a high load, since less energy is lost in the form of heat. In practice, this means that the difference in batteries with a higher capacity is, in many cases, negligible. However, the advantages they have are indeed advantages!
